Organic ghee: a healthier alternative than butter in Keto diet

Organic ghee vs. butter is a common confusion in diet plan, but if you close view both these dairy products, it will be easier to answer the quandary.

Organic ghee or butter is a common dilemma for diet freaks like me. Diet management is extremely important for us as we mostly want healthy weight management, nutritional balance, as well as satisfaction of taste buds via our diet management. Keto diet is one of the best diets now that can help us in keeping body weight under control, but selecting the right food for Keto diet is equally important.

The ketogenic diet is known as Keto diet. It is a low carb and high fat diet. The intake of carbohydrates is abridged by substituting it with good fats. Thus, this reduction of carbohydrates in your body places your body into a metabolic state called ketosis.

What I found significant in Keto diet is its demand for good fat in your daily food plan. Grass fed butter was my first preference but with slight research I could realize that grass fed cow ghee is a better option for Keto dieters.  But how?  The impetus will make your Keto plan more productive.

Energy enhancer and filler food

I have started using grass fed cow ghee in my morning coffee. Not only it adds a fantastic taste, its high calorie keeps me energized for long.

Organic ghee contains good amount of saturated fats. When this dairy is added to my morning dose of caffeine, it works simply like a filler food. Once you take a cup of coffee with the spoonful grass fed ghee, it will help you to control your hunger pang for long.

It’s versatile

Organic ghee is a safe cooking oil because of its high smoke point. Keto diet recommends the use of fat in cooking because it helps in ketosis faster than other cooking oils. Because of high smoke point what I have done, I used ghee in baking, deep frying, etc.

Substitution of   carb becomes easier if some tasty but healthy dishes can be added to diet. I am using ghee for seasoning salad, cooking, baking, sautéing, etc. safety of cooking and versatility are the reasons I have started loving ghee than butter.

Butter, if compared to ghee offers lower smoking point and ghee offers higher calorie. One table spoon of ghee offers 120 calorie whereas butter of the same quantity offers 102 calorie. As I am the happy follower of Keto diet, I found ghee is a safer option because it works as a better filler food.

I can use ghee for cooking of both veg and non-veg items as well as I use this dairy product for making both sweet and non-sweet dishes.  It’s versatile in the true sense of the word.

No lactose and casein in ghee

Ghee is called clarified butter for all good reasons. It is free from the dairy protein of the cow milk that often causes food allergy for lactose intolerant people. While butter is not free from the risk of allergy, ghee is a comparatively safer dairy product.

None of my family members are lactose intolerant. But, when I am using ghee instead of butter, I am using double protection in food safety. It makes me happy!

Ghee vs., butter

Between both grass fed butter and organic grass fed ghee I am more at peace with ghee in cooking. Besides ghee’s storage friendliness it can be preserved in kitchens with refrigeration support for 12-18 months from its date of manufacturing.

  • A single serving of grass fed organic ghee contains more vitamins like A, D, E, and K than a similar sized serving spoon of butter.
  • Grass-fed ghee contains 15% more fat than similar quantity of butter.
  • Grass fed ghee contains higher quantity of short-chain and medium-chain triglycerides than similar quality of butter: that is why ghee is counted as an easy source of energy in a ketogenic diet.

So if you compare between butter and ghee, ghee has some distinct advantages. However, the best ghee advantages is enjoyed from grass fed labelled products, so I prefer to use grass fed products only.

If you want to use good quality Organic grass fed ghee, you can try Milkio, New Zealand made organic grass fed ghee.  I am happy with the product for my kitchen.
