Why an STD Test Could Save Your Life

The term “STD testing” makes most people cringe. Images of grammar institution, pop quizzes, and the SATs come to mind.

Yet I’ve spent this month discussing a different type of test – the one that may help protect your wellbeing, and even save your valuable life.
April was STD recognition month: a required distinction in a world where one in two sexually working people will receive a std (STD) by age 25 – & most won’t even understand it. Yet it’s likely that you’ve been putting off getting tested for the very same reasons pop quizzes made you restless – you’re terrified of the results.

Not getting tested for an STD won’t mean you don’t have one – it just means if you have one you won’t find out about it. So do yourself and everyone in your life a favor. Don’t let another day pass without getting examined.

Before you convince yourself that you’re not in danger, consider the reality. The most recent national estimates claim that there are around 19 million new instances of STIs every year, half of these among 15-24-year-olds, which 65 million People in the usa have at least one viral STI, mostly genital herpes. In New York City, the statistics are even higher. Our Supports circumstance rate is 3 x the nationwide average – making New York the epicenter of the epidemic. Our rates of chlamydia, gonorrhea, and herpes are also much above the nationwide average.

So when you break these quantities down by race or years, the statistics get even scarier. A lot more than 80% of new HIV situations in 2008 were between women and men of color. For ladies, New York City’s highest rates of chlamydia and gonorrhea occur in teenage young girls, time 15-19. Amongst men, children aged 15-19 have the next highest rates, trumped only by those aged 20-24.

To be certain, education is important too. NEW YORK still does not require love-making ed to be trained in colleges – an undeniable fact that’s atrocious considering that about one in three teenagers in levels 9-12 are currently sexually lively, and practically one in five report having possessed four or more intimacy partners up to now in their life span. Only two-thirds of NY City’s sexually productive youth article using condoms in any way, and one in five young ladies did not use any contraceptive the previous time they had love-making.

Still, education doesn’t replace the necessity for tests. Many STDs are treatable – meaning the earlier they are really detected, the earlier you can address them and the less serious they will become. A number of STDs are also symptomless – signifying you might have one right now and not even understand it.
STD trials is safe and easy. Getting analyzed protects your health, and can even save your life. You owe it to yourself – grab yourself tested.
